چکیده
P. aeruginosa (Kitasato strain) was used as host. Forty-three strains of P. aeruginosa from the culture collection of the Department of Bacteriology, School of Medicine, Kyushu University were used for determination of the lytic spectrum of the phage. A phage of P. aeruginosa with rod-shaped head was designated as K. The host cells were cultivated in nutrient broth with aeration for 3 hr. At this time the phage suspension was added to the culture and incubation with aeration was continued for an additional 3 hr. The lysate contained approximately 108 to 1010 phage particles per ml. Plaque counting and one step growth experiments were carried out according to Adams (1950). Antiphage serum was prepared in rabbits by injecting phage filtrates at 3 to 4-day intervals for 2 months. For electron microscopy, the phage suspension was placed on a collodion membrane overlying a copper mesh screen and was shadowed with chromium. The specimens were examined using a JENM-5 electron microscope.

Investigating the Effect of Lytic Bacteriophages on Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Isolates with Multidrug Resistance (MDR) in Tehran in 2021
Introduction: Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterium has a high resistance to most anti-Pseudomonas drugs, which has caused concern all over the world. Therefore, the effect of lytic bacteriophages on Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates with multi-drug resistance is investigated in this research. Methods and Materials: Different strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacterium were identified and isolated fr...
متن کاملThe effect of a bacteriophage on diversification of the opportunistic bacterial pathogen, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic human pathogen that colonizes the lungs of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. CF lungs often contain a diverse range of P. aeruginosa phenotypes, some of which are likely to contribute to the persistence of infection, yet the causes of diversity are unclear. While the ecological heterogeneity of the lung environment and therapeutic regimes are probable fac...
متن کاملIsolation and Characterization of a Virulent Bacteriophage φPA-HF17 of Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an important causative agent of nosocomial infection, is found throughout the hospital environment in moist reservoirs, and multidrug-resistant strains of P. aeruginosa have been increasingly reported worldwide. Bacteriophages are often considered potential therapeutic candidates in treating infectious diseases. In this study, a novel virulent bacteriophage φPA-HF17, spe...
متن کاملCharacterization of Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO Specific Bacteriophages Isolated from Sewage Samples
The purpose of this study was to isolate and characterize Pseudomonas aeruginosa phages with regard to their morphology, growth characteristics, genetic material and structural protein composition. Five phages specific to P. aeruginosa PAO were isolated from sewage samples. Adsorption rates and one step growth curves of these phages were determined and on this basis, phages were found to be dis...
متن کاملComplete Genome Sequence of the Myoviral Bacteriophage YS35, Which Causes the Lysis of a Multidrug-Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa Strain
The lytic bacteriophage YS35, which is capable of lysing multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains, was isolated from a sewage sample. Here, we describe the complete genome sequence of this myoviral bacteriophage, which contains 93,296 bp of double-stranded DNA and has a 49.4% G+C content.
